Things to Do in Chefchaouen: A 2 or 3 Day Itinerary
Explore Morocco’s Blue City at your own pace, from medina walks and panoramic viewpoints to Akchour hikes and local cooking experiences.

Chefchaouen is a place to explore at an easy pace, but a little planning helps you enjoy more of your stay. With two days, you can discover the medina and spend a day in nature. Add a third day and there is time for a cooking experience, another walk or a longer break on a terrace.
This itinerary assumes full days in the destination. If you arrive in the afternoon or have an early onward transfer, adjust the programme around your actual travel times.
Day 1: The medina, local life and city views
Start at Outa el Hammam Square, a useful place to get your bearings. From here, explore the medina streets, browse the shops and make your way to the kasbah. Its gardens offer another perspective on the historic centre. Check admission arrangements and opening hours before planning your day around an inside visit. Official destination information
Continue towards Ras El Maa, leaving time for small discoveries along the way: a bakery, a workshop or a conversation with your guide. Ask permission before photographing people or entering private spaces.
In the afternoon, consider the viewpoint by the Spanish Mosque, also known as Bouzafer. It offers a view of the city from outside the medina. The approach involves an uphill walk, so adapt the plan to your mobility and allow enough daylight for the return. A terrace that welcomes visitors is another option for enjoying the views. Day 2: A nature excursion to Akchour
Set aside your second day for an excursion from Chefchaouen. Before choosing, decide what you would enjoy most: a gentler riverside outing, a hike towards God’s Bridge or a longer walk towards the Grand Cascade.
Akchour excursions do not all follow the same route. Timing depends on the trail, your pace, breaks and conditions underfoot. Mention whether you are travelling with children, prefer to avoid demanding sections or would like several hours of hiking.
Keep the evening relaxed after your return. Leaving space after a long walk gives you time to enjoy the city without rushing into another activity.
Day 3: Local cooking and time to explore
A cooking experience introduces you to the city through its flavours. At Chefchaouen Adventures, we organise cooking classes that can be included in your stay. Ask us about the programme and let us know about any food allergies before booking.
Afterwards, revisit your favourite corners, browse a few shops or enjoy a coffee before your next transfer. If you are interested in a multi-day trek, set aside dedicated days for it: a mountain itinerary needs more time than a short walk added to a city visit.
A closer look at the history of the Blue City
Pay attention to the kasbah, the shapes of the houses and everyday life as you walk. Blue is Chefchaouen’s best-known image, but its history deserves more than a single explanation of the colour. A guided visit can put the buildings in context and help distinguish local stories from documented history.
When is the best time to visit Chefchaouen?
Spring and autumn are generally good choices for combining sightseeing and outdoor activities in Morocco. Plan each walk around the actual forecast, though: a day in the medina and a mountain hike have different demands. In summer, avoid concentrating strenuous activity in the hottest hours. For cool or wet days, bring layers and adjust your route. General seasonal guidance
Getting your bearings: Places to save on your map
Save Outa el Hammam, the kasbah, Ras El Maa, the Spanish Mosque and your accommodation in your map app. These points help you organise your visit; they are not a navigation map. If you have luggage, ask your accommodation about the easiest access route. A short distance on the map may still involve stairs.
Plan your stay with a local team
Have two or three days and need help putting them together? Tell us when you arrive, how many people are travelling and what you would like to do. We can help you combine a private walking tour, a cooking experience and an excursion suited to your pace.
